Legendary special operations veteran to speak at the Rushmore Veterans Ride

DanSchilling Dan Shilling

Dan Schilling, New York Times bestselling author of Alone at Dawn, will deliver the keynote address at the second annual Rushmore Veterans Ride August 6th at 0945.

He is widely known for his actions in the seminal battle that came to be called Black Hawk Down where he is credited with saving the lives of a SEAL Team Six SEAL and Ranger teammate under fire during one of America's biggest gunfights in half a century.

An adrenaline enthusiast, he holds the Guinness World Record for most BASE jumps in 24 hours, is a professional demonstration skydiver and expert speed wing pilot.

During his 30 plus-year career Dan's combat and clandestine deployments as a Combat Controller and Special Tactics Officer have taken him to every continent but Antarctica. He founded and then served as the first commander of two special operations squadrons (one of which's name and purpose remains classified), and is a static line and HALO master parachutist, Special Forces combat diver, and demolitions instructor.

His current book, Alone at Dawn, is about Air Force Medal of Honor recipient John Chapman, and the deadliest special operations force in the world. Copies will be available for purchase and signing from 0845-0945 before the ride. There is also a formal book signing August 5th at 6PM at Mitzi's Books on 510 Main Street, Rapid City.
