Travel Back in Time on Motorcycle Rides Led by a Local Historian

Follow in the footsteps of fierce Native American warriors and the US Cavalry and experience the history and lore of the American West on the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s Western Frontier Motorcycle Rides!

Ride alongside local historian Paul Mitchell as he takes you and your friends on a ride back in time from the legendary Buffalo Chip Campground to the gravesite of Jonathon “Buffalo Chips” White, the campground’s namesake and protégé of Buffalo Bill Cody.

Each ride will offer you the chance to experience history hands on with activities including rifle and pistol shooting experiences, and a four-hour motorcycle expedition to the site of the Great Sioux Nation Battle at Slim Buttes.

The Western Heritage Motorcycle Rides will take place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on Sunday, Aug. 4 and Thursday, Aug. 8. Each ride is limited to 20 participants.

As you ride through the scenic foothills north of the Black Hills, listen and learn the unique history of the area as Mitchell shares the fascinating stories of Chief American Horse, Jonathon “Buffalo Chips” White, and the Battle of Slim Buttes. You’ll also learn about the US Cavalry, Cavalry scouts, several other instrumental Sioux Chiefs, Buffalo Bill Cody, Hugh Glass, the history of Pony Express, and much more!

Event Itinerary

Morning Meet Up (8 a.m.)

Meet at the Buffalo Chip’s Rifle Range at the east end of the campground and for a short orientation of the day’s activities.

Kickstands Up for the First Leg

Travel north on SD-79 past sacred Bear Butte, Scoop Town historical marker, Bismark Trail historical marker and the winding Belle Fourche River.

Hoover, SD
After 53 miles, you’ll be able to stretch your legs and hear historical remarks during a stop at the Hoover General Store on the Grand River, famous for its connection with Hugh Glass and the movie The Reverent.

Slim Buttes Overlook
At your next stop at a scenic overlook of Slim Buttes, you’ll hear tales of the surrounding Native American encampments and dinosaurs that roamed the area.

Reva Store
A stop at the Reva Store in the historic community of Reva, SD will allow you to fuel up, use the restroom and grab your sack lunch. The community bears the name of Reva Bonniwell, the daughter of the first settler.

Gravesites of Buffalo Chips and American Horse
Four miles outside Reva, you’ll come upon a small cemetery that serves as the final resting place for Buffalo Chips. He and Chief American Horse, both died in the battle of Slim Buttes. Here, you will enjoy your sack lunch before heading back south to the Spur Creek Soon.

Spur Creek Saloon

On the way back to the Chip, you’ll stop at the rustic Spur Creek Saloon for refreshments, photo opportunities and more historical narrative. From here you’ll depart back to the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Aidan’s Ride will be returning on August 6th, 2019.

Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation was established to address the need for information and newborn screening with respect to Adrenoleukodystrophy. In addition, we strive to support and encourage those afflicted and their families as they struggle to endure, adjust and cope with the demands of the disease.

  • To advocate for ALD newborn screening in every state.
  • To gather and provide current, functional information and provide financial support to families of children with ALD.
  • To fund research efforts that will identify new treatments, therapies and ultimately, a cure for ALD.
  • To raise awareness of ALD and increasing the probability of early detection and treatment.

Aidan and our family have been blessed with support from all over the world. Aidan’s Facebook page quickly reached over 20,000 members who went on this journey with us. The letters, cards, gifts made our days brighter and made us feel that although the majority of these people never knew us or our son they were praying for his recovery. The family and friends who held fundraisers allowing us to spend every precious moment with our son are priceless. The Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation is a tribute to our hero Aidan who suffered enormously and showed us the meaning of kindness, hope and most of all love. Our hope is to help save future boys and their families this unimaginable suffering.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM TONI
“Biker Belles represents many positive elements of the motorcycle community - encouragement, empowerment, mentorship and charity. When we created the event in 2009, we’d hoped it would change people’s lives for the better, and it’s amazing to see nearly a decade later how much it truly has. Each year the passion, diversity and spirit of this group has inspired amazing and unexpected connections and growth among participants and the community as a whole. I can’t wait to see where the Biker Belles takes us in the years to come, and I hope you will join us on the journey."
