The Moto Meetup - The Buffalo Chip Official Sturgis Rally Kickoff Party begins with a bang on Friday, Aug. 4 with the Support Bikers Moto Meetup at the Big Engine Bar at 4 p.m.

The Parade - At 5 p.m. you can line up to join hundreds of bikers* to parade through the Chip’s legendary amphitheater for the kickoff. The parade starts at 6 p.m.

How to Join the Parade - Make a reservation that includes Aug. 4. Email us at info@buffalochip.com with your existing reservation number and the number of bikes on your reservation that you want to be in the parade. Please enter “Parade” in the Subject Line.

Battle Of The Bands, Beer Wall Smash, and More - Once inside the amphitheater, the festivities will continue with a Beer Wall Smash Stunt, Star-Spangled Banner, live entertainment on the Main Stage from the winners of the Sturgis Battle of the Bands Competition, ZZ Top, and the International Bikini Team!

*Only the first 100 registered will get to park bikes inside the amphitheater for that night’s show. The rest will parade through and be ushered to parking outside the amphitheater gates.

You’ll be left with Something to Talk About after an unapologetically rowdy live performance from gold-selling singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Koe Wetzel Saturday, Aug. 5. Watch in awe as this Northeast Texas rebel bulldozes the boundaries between Nashville songcraft, rowdy Texas spirit, and Seattle hard rock with massive hits such as “February 28, 2016,” “Something To Talk About,” “Drunk Driving,” and “Good Die Young,” as well as tracks from 2022 album release “Hell Paso.”

10:30pm - Midnight - Hey rockers and hip-hoppers…Get on your bikes and keep Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’ into the Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling. Nu-metal pioneers Limp Bizkit will be making their Sturgis Rally debut at the Buffalo Chip during the 2023 Sturgis Rally, bringing along their infectious spirit, some of the most recognizable songs of the late '90s and tracks from their latest album “Still Sucks”. Throw your hands up to tracks like “Break Stuff,” “Rollin’,” “My Way,” and “Dad Vibes” on Monday, Aug. 7 following a performance from Lita Ford.

I’ve met a great number of celebrities over my lifetime, but few as gracious and charismatic as NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace. He’s ranked as one of the top five money winners in NASCAR history, has 55 career victories over sixteen straight seasons and is honored in the “triple crown” of auto racing halls of fame. Rusty is one of America’s greatest racecar drivers of all time, and he is always ready to meet fans and lead the charge for great causes. Ride alongside local historian Tom Griffith as he takes you and your friends on a ride back in time from the legendary Buffalo Chip Campground to the gravesite of Jonathon “Buffalo Chips” White, the campground’s namesake and protégé of Buffalo Bill Cody.

The ride will offer you the chance to experience history hands on with a four-hour motorcycle expedition to the site of the Great Sioux Nation Battle at Slim Buttes.

The Western Heritage Motorcycle Ride will take place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023.

As you ride through the scenic foothills north of the Black Hills, listen and learn the unique history of the area through your headset as Griffith shares the fascinating stories of Chief American Horse, Jonathon “Buffalo Chips” White, and the Battle of Slim Buttes. You’ll also learn about the US Cavalry, Cavalry scouts, several other instrumental Sioux Chiefs, Buffalo Bill Cody, Hugh Glass, the history of Pony Express, and much more!

Morning Meet Up (8 a.m.)
Meet at the Sturgis Rally Information Center™

at the Buffalo Chip CrossRoads for a short orientation of the day’s activities.

Tom Griffith will share a brief history of the area over coffee.

Kickstands Up for the First Leg

The ride will depart from the Information Center. From here you’ll travel north on SD-79 past sacred Bear Butte, Scoop Town historical marker, Bismarck Trail historical marker and the winding Belle Fourche River.

Hoover, SD

After 53 miles, you’ll be able to stretch your legs and hear historical remarks during a stop at the Hoover General Store on the Grand River, famous for its connection with Hugh Glass and the movie The Reverent.

Slim Buttes Overlook
At your next stop at a scenic overlook of Slim Buttes, you’ll hear tales of the surrounding Native American encampments and dinosaurs that roamed the area.

Reva Store
A stop at the Reva Store in the historic community of Reva, SD will allow you to fuel up, use the restroom and grab your sack lunch. The community bears the name of Reva Bonniwell, the daughter of the first settler.

Gravesites of Buffalo Chips and American Horse

Four miles outside Reva, you’ll come upon a small cemetery that serves as the final resting place for Buffalo Chips. He and Chief American Horse, both died in the battle of Slim Buttes. Here, you will enjoy your sack lunch before heading back south to the Spur Creek Saloon.

Spur Creek Saloon

On the way back to the Chip, you’ll stop at the rustic Spur Creek Saloon for refreshments, photo opportunities and more historical narrative. From here you’ll depart back to the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.

There’s no other place in the world that lets you experience this fascinating history, so don’t miss your opportunity during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
