Re: Cabin Fever?

The hospitals here won't allow anyone in with the patient. That's a serious issue when the patient can't understand what the healthcare providers are saying.

Re: Cabin Fever?

We harvested another handful of green beans. I blanched froze them. In the next month or so, we might actually harvest enough for a couple servings... Rained buckets early this morning, so we don't have to water today. We're on permanent water rationing here, and keeping a close eye on when we'll ne...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Harvested some green beans and carrot tops. Still hoping the tomatoes make fruit. Otherwise, we're just sittin' on our hillside, enjoying the weather.

All this social distancing is just everyday life out here...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Went to the big city to pay Mom's rent on her Independent Living apartment and to pick up a few things she wants while she's staying with us. Not a whole lot of autos out and about, not even close to normal, even though the city is gradually opening up. Headed over to Sister's place for more of Mom'...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Memorial Day weekend was pretty normal. No uptick in county infections, so I guess the tourons took their germs/viruses/cooties home with them.

We're harvesting Blue Lake green beans at a fairly steady pace. WLToo remembers to close the gate now...

Time to get crackin'. Got chores to do.

Re: Cabin Fever?

Our village stores are doing okay, inventory wise, except when the tourons descend upon us, so we don't have to go to the city often at all. We really enjoy being out here, where we don't have to see any other humans unless we feel like it. As an introvert, I rarely feel like it; WLToo says I'd make...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Had to go out in public today. Saturday during Memorial Day weekend here is a nightmare. All the tourons have arrived from the big cities, bringing their city attitudes and germs/viruses, etc. Luckily, I got in and out before the crowds cluttered everything up. We'll just hunker down on the property...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Harvested our green beans yesterday. Got a whopping 6 beans from a less than 12" tall bush. Frankly, I was surprised that a bush bean was producing so early. Beans were quite tasty. Hope the bushes get bigger before they start producing more beans. Would like to harvest at least a couple servings at...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Rained again last night. We now have 11.44" accumulated in the last 72 hours. That's over half this year's rainfall to date.

At least today is love, warm and partly cloudy. Next system shouldn't be here for at least 8 days, so we may dry out. I'm sure the garden will appreciate it.

Re: Cabin Fever?

Stay safe, Winger. The weather patterns are kinda nuts this spring. We got a bit more rain early this morning, so we have a total registered of 10.07" in the last 24 hours. At the heaviest downpour, the rate was over 3" an hour. The roads have been cleaned off, and I do mean clean. Looks kinda weird...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Final count was 10" at our place, nearly 14" in the village to the west (lots of flash flooding there), and about 12" in the village to the east. But because the heaviest rainfall was below the dam, the lake only rose .01 foot, so it's still 2.24' below full. More rain inbound this weekend. Could be...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Mother Nature decided to give us a little rain, to the tune of 9.18" in 4 hours. It rained so hard that it created its own wind. On the up side, I know where the roof leaks. On the down side, I know where the roof leaks. Fortunately, it's all in the separate garage... For the first time in 10 years,...

Re: Cabin Fever?

It's been absolutely lovely the last few days; hanging out on the deck is the order of the day. Had to go pick up a prescription, which required me to go inside the big grocery store. It was no problem at all. The vast majority of shoppers work face masks and kept a fair distance from each other. Th...

Mom's Independent Living facility allowed me in to get more of her clothes. Sheesh, she's got more clothes than I ever had/have... Spent most of the day packing up her clothes. Took half of them over to my sister, because as soon as the big city eases up on some of its restrictions, we're moving her...

Our county stay home order expires today, and the county will then comply with the governor's re-opening guidelines. Doesn't really change anything we're doing, other than give us a few more options for restaurant foods. We still will stick with take-out -- not subjecting Mom to any chance of some t...

Re: Cabin Fever?

WLToo went to the local grocery a couple days ago. No problems getting anything we needed, except the distilled water. I do not understand what's up with that -- not like it's good drinking water. Well, if we can't get any when the last gallon is gone, Mom's CPAP will just have to use regular filter...

Re: Cabin Fever?

Did the drive yesterday and today, to return the materials. Amazing the number of fools still running around like they're invincible. I had my mask (an old bandana, but it works) and gloves in place, and still used the sanitizer station at the local grocery. Others were completely unprotected and no...

Have to drive into the big city today. Got my cleaning wipes, my mask (bandana), my gloves, and my paranoia. At least I don't have to get out of the pickup, just drive up and accept the materials from my doctor's tech. Then I'll wipe it all down before going anywhere. Someone I knew died from COVID-...

Hey, dere, Copperhead. Glad to see you still alive and kicking. Now that you're stuck at home, don't be such a stranger... Supposed to be cloudy and rainy all week. Yet the lake level has only risen about a quarter foot, still a couple feet below full. If the rain concentrates upriver, the lake will...

Now that Mom's living with us, we're doing a lot more laundry, and getting in quite a few more steps, going back and forth between the Fifth Wheel, where she technically lives, and the house, where she spends most of her awake time. At least her walking is getting steadier. Planted row 3 of our gard...

Re: Cabin Fever?

It's wet. Seriously wet. As in flash flood watch wet, and flash flood warnings upriver. Just what the county needs, possible flooding to go on top of the virus.

Won't affect us, but all those city folk who bought in the flood prone areas just might find their vacation homes gone...

It was nice and misty this morning. We headed to the big city for our cardiologist appointments. That went fine. Then we came home in pouring buckets of wet. Re: Cabin Fever?

Had to get an early morning blood test. The lab is inside a Walmart about 15 miles away. So when I finished, I decided to see what I could find. Being so early in the morning, not too many folks were in the store; we could all keep our distance. I found most of what I wanted. A lot of items were one...

I went to Costco in the big city this morning. The seniors got in early. As I went inside, an employee stood by pallets of toilet paper. He didn't offer it so much as just load it on my cart, so I took it, even though it wasn't on my shopping list. If someone near me needs it, we'll share. The senio...

Lizzy, I gave away clothes that were too small. Five years later I could wear them again. But I do not regret cleaning out my closet. In fact, I'm doing it again. Jeans are way too big, so they're leaving, as soon as the local thrift store starts taking donations again. Meanwhile, our local communit...

Cabin Fever?

Anyone got cabin fever yet? I do not, but we have over five acres to wander around on, and no full-time neighbors within sight. We can sit on the deck and enjoy the fresh air and spring weather, and the quiet afforded us. Not too many folks "vacationing" here, since the governor highly recommended p...
