KIMBERLY LOVES TRIKES

HER RIDING SMILE TELLS THE WHOLE STORY

Kimberly Busskohl was born and raised around motorcycles, snowmobiles and cars both street and race cars. That environment must have had a profound effect on the way she thinks about motorized vehicles. As a teenager she watched a movie about bikers, the name of which she is unable to remember. One of the bikers in the movies falls for a girl who can only walk with the aid of crutches. So, he builds her a three wheeled motorcycle so she can ride with him on the open road. This movie was being shown way back before today’s vastly increased popularity of three wheeled motorcycles. She fell head over heels Kimberly says “I fell in love with that Trike and told myself that I would own and ride a custom trike someday.” When she got married at the age of 20, her and her new husband vowed to get their very own motorcycles before they were 40, because the only motorcycles they had to ride at that time were machines they borrowed from her husbands uncle. After she and her husband became parents of a bouncing baby boy, they realized it might take longer that they anticipated to acquire their own two wheelers. When Kimberly’s husband passed away two years later she gave up her dreams of owning a custom Trike to raise her kids. When she remarried in the year 2010 her new husband helped her achieve that long standing dream of owning a Harley-Davidson Trike before she was 40 years old. If you look at the photos of Kimberly riding, she doesn’t look a day older than 29. She purchased her dream Trike, the motorcycle seen here, in the month of July 2011. Kimberly diligently searched the internet for close to eight months before she found this Harley-Davidson XL (Sportster) three wheeler. Kimberly has added a windshield, and a Chopper style yesteryear sissy bar with a fender bib. It’s probably a safe bet that Kimberly will be doing additional modifications to this motorcycle in the near future. While photographing her riding I noticed every time she got going faster than 10 MPH she couldn’t keep a big wide smile from happening on her face.

To get from two wheels to three wheels the original owner/builder of this Trike bolted on a Frankenstein rear section (http://www.frankensteintrikes.com/) which utilizes the stock HD rear wheel pulley, and final drive belt. Vance and Hines exhaust pipes dump the burnt stuff to rear while improving the decibel level to that which Harley-Davidson motor-heads appreciate. Not too loud and not too quiet, sorta like Goldilocks pipes……just right! Mounted on the primary cover is a Pingel electric shifter, no air pump required for speedy up-shifting.
