PERRY DECOYS 1970 HARLEY-DAVIDSON XLCH
While many Harley-Davidson Big-Twin riders consider the Harley-Davidson Sportster not worthy of their attention, this Chopped XL looks better by accident than many custom Big Twins do on purpose. Perry Decoy and friend Mike Maldonado (Heavy Custom Cycle) really put on the Ritz with this custom. From the molded in tail and brake lights to the custom dual single piston front brake assembly, this is a Classy Sportster. Four Andrews bump sticks open and close the valves, an S&S Super “E” feeds the motor fuel-air mix, and a Hunt Magneto sparks the plugs. Perry tossed the rear suspension shocks and replaced them with struts, my ass hurts just looking. Front suspension and steering are via a Paughco Springer with three full inches of travel. Borrani aluminum rims (say expensive) are laced to Performance Machine hubs front and rear. A twenty one incher up front, 16 incher out back. Avon rubber is installed as follows; Speedmaster 3:00-21 up front, 140-16 Road Ranger on the rear. Brakes front and rear are custom mounted Performance Machine units. The seat is Ostrich. The bike looks good wouldn’t ya say? Perry made the mistake of loaning the bike to a friend. I was told the friend crashed and trashed the bike within about a month of it being completed. What a bummer! This is a perfect example of what can be done with a Harley-Davidson Ironhead Sportster using a little creativity.
