Mark is doing the steering, Paul is getting a free ride in the chair!

One year in Sturgis, Mark Shadley and myself had our sidecar outfit at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish and I was giving sidecar rides to all takers with the courage to have me doing the steering. John Christner and his wife went for a ride and loved it. That was it, John had to have a sideccar outfit and asked Shadley Brothers to custom build one with a few extra’s. I met John Christner ( the owner of the side car) at the Kyle Petty ride for charity in 1999 or 2000. We became friends over the next few years. John would come up to the Cape for the Hamster Fall Folliage Run, and we would see him at Sturgis Rally every year.
As you can see in the photographs, John spared no expense from the hexed, polished, and XL detailed motor to the fit and finish on all the body and paint work. John owns a large trucking company so we incorporated his company colors and logos in the paint scheme. That very fancy paint artwork was laid down by the spray guru, Russ Keene at Shadley Bros, while the artwork and striping was done by Gregg Heger of East Bridgewater Ma.
There is also a very long list of custom hand-made parts on the Sportster sidecar outfit, from the handle bars and ignition box, to the one-off exhaust system, oil tank, battery tray and box, motor mount, tail lamps and mounts, rear side car bumper and side car top rail protectors. John was absolutely thrilled with the XL hack project and loves to cruisei around his local haunts for bike nights, parades, and other events.
