CIGAR OF THE WEEK… EDGAR HOILL
Edgar Hoill Cultura 40 X 54 X 4.5
As original and lucid as his photography, Edgar Hoill will make you see cigars in a new way. From the original packaging to the a vitola that enhances this cigar’s flavors. Every sensory aspect seems to be taken into account to develop this brilliant smoke. From the clean, minimal design of the box, the spider web paper wrapper that each individual cigar is packaged in, the luxurious feel of the oily Habano wrapper, the rich prelight and the eye opening play between spice and sweetness throughout the smoke. As a first effort in the cigar market this is – One Shot One Kill!
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano
Size: 40 X 54 X 4.5
A solid cigar with a soft, oily feel to the wrapper and just the smallest amount of veins showing. Rich, earthy prelight aroma and a meaty sweet leather cold draw. Meaty and full-bodied on the palate. Rich, organic flavors with fresh black pepper and oak wood up front and a toast, caramel-like sweetness. Spicy and sweet flavors develop through the first third as the wood diminishes the black pepper tones down. A soft cashew nuttiness appears as the tones deepen and a hint of coffee and vanilla emerge. Through the second third the burn is even and the ash is almost all white-gray. The earthy, black pepper flavors stays consistent and faint oak is softened by a caramel and aromatic amaretto sweetness. The coffee tone comes up with the amaretto with a quiet note of salt. Over all this exceptional cigar remains meaty and full-bodied to the finish. The black pepper kicks up again on the last third but is balanced by the coffee and the caramel and amaretto sweetness. What an out-of-the-box experience this cigar was. Unexpected flavors that work very well together will make you want to revisit this smoke again and again.
