BAGGSTER ON the ROAD

THE LITTLE BIG BIKE
Chris Lees Baggster project is off and running. The motorcycle you see here started life as an 883 Harley-Davidson Sportster. After installing a big bore kit to bring the motor up to 1200cc (74 cubic inches), and having a few components either chrome plated or subjected to the Diamond Heads treatment, Baggster bodywork was replaced the OEM stuff. Raked triple clamps, and a 23 inch front wheel/tire assembly replaced the stock front wheel and tire. The Sportster has now become a Baggster, with all the persona and storage space of a larger, heavier touring bike, while retaining the handling and light weight of the Sportster, with the caveat that the motorcycle actually handles more like a big bike than a Sportster. The larger front wheel and tire weigh slightly more than the stock equipment, and the added fork rake imparts some welcome directional stability at highway speeds.
