SHOOTER JENNINGS

Shooter Jennings Compiling Album for 2012 Release

The one and only son of two country music legends Waylon Jennings & Jessi Colter, Shooter Jennings spent almost his entire childhood on a tour bus with mom and dad. Born Waylon Albright Jennings, Shooter was banging drums by the time he was five years old and had already begun taking piano lessons. He broke off the keyboard lessons to follow his own path to an understanding of that instrument. He and his fingers discovered the string picking magic of the guitar at 14 along with rock & roll. At the ripe old age of 16 Shooter was particularly influenced by Southern rock and the loose-limbed hard-rock music of Guns N’ Roses. Shooter moved from Country oriented Nashville to rock and roll capital Los Angeles, Ca where he assembled a rock band with the unlikely name of Stargunn. Stargunn quickly earned a solid reputation for it’s very impressive live performances before Shooter rediscovered his blue-blood outlaw country music roots and dissolved the band. After a short stay in New York, where Jennings complied material for a country music project subsequently returning to the L.A. area, gathering together talented country based musicians with solid country music backgrounds This group was named the .357s (Lotta firearm references here). Shooter J and the .357’s holed up in the studio, busting their humps to cut a rambunctious country album called Put the O Back in Country, which was released in 2005 on Universal South Records. Following in his father’s footsteps, but with his own feisty, scrappy style Shooter J placed himself in a very advantageous position to both explore the country music legacy of his breeding and to carve out his own special brand of country music. A second album, Electric Rodeo (which was actually recorded before Put the O Back in Country), appeared in 2006, followed by a live set, Live at Irving Plaza, later in the year. Jennings’ third solo effort, The Wolf, was released in October 2007, featuring a cover of Dire Straits’ “Walk of Life” (whose composer, Mark Knopfler, had been a longtime family friend). His fourth studio album, Black Ribbons, produced by Dave Cobb, was released in 2010 and received great critical acclaim and earned solid sales. Shooter is currently working on a new country album scheduled for release by Savoy Label Group’s 429 Records/Black Country Rock in March 2011.
