SAMSON EXHAUST UPDATE
BOLT ON PONIES
If you're wanting to upgrade your current exhaust system with something that can produce more horsepower and sound good at the same time, take a long look at Samson. Kevin Jager's 2004 Harley-Davidson FLHT needed a deep breathing pipe to go along with many other performance components he was planning to install on his eight year old Bagger. The existing exhaust system on Kevin Jager’s 2004 Harley-Davidson FLHT will be replaced with a Samson two-into-one exhaust system part #C2-2311BB.
Loosen the hardware and remove the right side rider foot board. Swing the front mounting post down.
Loosen the flange hardware on the existing exhaust system both front and rear cylinders.
Loosen the muffler mounting hardware at the rear and middle brackets.
Carefully dismount the exhaust header pipe.
Dismount the existing muffler/exhaust system support bracket from the transmission.
At this time clean and inspect the motor and the exhaust ports prior to starting the installation a new exhaust system.
Remove the used crush gaskets from the exhaust ports both front and rear cylinders. Clean the carbon away as needed.
Being install are Samson part # A-144, tapered exhaust gaskets. Kevin is using a home made tool for ease of installation.
With the perfect fit of the Samson tapered gaskets, which “crush” to contour with the port, no exhaust leaks can occur.
This non fuel injection FLHT does not utilize O2 sensors so Samson sensor-port plugs, part # A164 are being installed.
Install the Samson thinner-than-stock Chrome-plated steel flanges (part # A-130) onto the header pipe with the groove outward as shown.
Now the steel exhaust pipe retention clip can be installed on the header pipe for both front and rear cylinder positions.
