By Steven M. Bialick, Attorney,

Many states require a driver involved in a crash to submit a report to the state within a specified time period, under certain circumstances. For example, Minnesota requires every driver in a crash involving $1,000 or more in property damage or injury or death to file a report with the state within 10 days, and failure to do so is a misdemeanor.

If you're involved in a crash, you should check with the state where the accident occurred to determine any reporting requirements for that state.

Steven M. Bialick has been in the private practice of law since 1980.  He practices in the areas of accident and personal injury law.  This article is intended to provide general information only, and is not legal advice or a legal opinion on any certain facts or circumstances.  Readers are encouraged to consult with an attorney on any specific legal questions or matters.
