Motorcycles arrive in force

SPEARFISH — It's not Rally time yet and already the streets and highways are rumbling with the sounds of motorcycles.

“It's pretty congested out there,” Christina Steele, a member of the Sturgis Rally public relations staff, said Thursday afternoon. “Main Street is mostly all bikes and it isn't even all blocked off yet. That happens tonight.”

Established in 1876. This paper is the oldest business in West River South Dakota and the only locally owned newspaper in the territory. The Pioneer serves Spearfish, Lead, Deadwood and Whitewood in Lawrence County as well as Meade and Butte County.
